Langdon is a Jewish Charity, an ambitious, forward-thinking organisation supporting adults and young people with learning disabilities and autism to live independent lives through supported living, education, employment support and social activities. We support people in the Jewish Community in both London and Manchester enabling those to thrive and have equal opportunities and empowering them to live their very best lives and be their best, true selves.

About Langdon Brady

Langdon Brady Club is a youth group for Jewish people who face difficulties learning and socialising. It plays a vitally important role for its Members: an opportunity to meet new people and have fun in an inclusive, welcoming environment. We believe that the interactions that happen at our club help our Members to develop their sense of identity and gain the confidence needed for them practice their own version of independence.

What will you be doing? 

Langdon Brady activities are designed to help the Members to practise hard and soft skills and to provide a challenge that will have the Members leaving us with a sense of achievement. Previous activities have included: lots of arts and crafts, cooking/baking, playing card/board games and performance workshops (e.g. music and dance).

We are currently looking for volunteers to support our Sunday club during these times:

• Edgeware: 3-6pm
• Borehamwood: 2:30-4:30pm

The role includes:

• Be a responsible individual who cares about the safety of our Members.
• Taking part in the group activities with us.
• Supporting Members who are struggling with tasks with a person-centred approach.
• Motivating our Members to join in and socialise.
• Contribute with minor logistical tasks such as cleaning and tidying up.
• Ensuring our Members are safe at all times.
• Being committed to ensure stability for our Members.
• Promoting and adhering to the workplace values: Excellence, Responsive, Integrity, Caring and Empowering.

What are we looking for?

• You are person-centred and outgoing.
• You have excellent interpersonal skills including empathy, active listening and communication.
• You are enthusiastic.
• You have the desire to support others.
• You enjoy doing activities.

• You have experience working with people with learning disabilities (not essential).
