Annual dinner 2018

This year’s Langdon Annual Dinner, held on Monday night, saw a record number of 554 guests attend the event.

In his introductory remarks, Chairman Nigel Henry asked the audience to “imagine a charity evening where there are no more speeches, where you get to see, hear and meet the people you’re actually supporting. How refreshing would that be? Well, welcome to the Langdon Annual Dinner led by our Members”. He then handed over to Ben Brahams, a Langdon Member of 7 years and toastmaster for the night, who introduced each of his colleagues to the audience. Even the appeal film was made by three Members – Robert Bluestone, Elisa Leigh and Marc Butcher – and gave a very personal window on their daily lives and achievements.

Actor Warwick Davis spoke movingly of his experiences and how everyone should be given the opportunity to maximise their potential. After an introduction by the toastmaster, Benjamin Brahams welcomed the multi-talented actor, comedian and television presenter: Warwick treated the crowd to hilarious anecdotes from his childhood and early career.

The evening concluded with a short film featuring tributes from a selection of communal leaders including the Chief Rabbi to former Langdon Chairman Jonathan Joseph who has given 25 years of communal service to a number of charities.

Guests responded very positively to the appeal and pledged a total of almost £650,000.
